Poconos in winter with kids: indoor water parks compared

When it is freezing outside, the Poconos' three big indoor water park resorts run a permanent 84°F summer. We compared what Kalahari, Camelback's Aquatopia and Great Wolf Lodge publish on their official websites: size, hours, heights and who each one fits. Official sites checked 20 October 2026.

Which one fits your family

For the biggest park: Kalahari is the scale champion at 220,000 square feet and the only one of the three publishing daily hours on its site, which makes planning easier. Free life jackets are provided and required for kids under 48 inches.

For a shorter or cheaper visit: Camelback's Aquatopia, in Tannersville on the ski mountain, advertises a 3PM-to-close admission option, useful if you want one big afternoon rather than a full resort stay. It stays at 84°F year-round and is open daily in the October-November 2026 season.

For toddlers and first-timers: Great Wolf Lodge's 120,000 square foot park includes the Whooping Hollow area designed for little kids and an all-ages wave pool; a few slides start at 42 inches. The whole resort is themed for younger children.

Winter beyond the water parks

The Poconos are Pennsylvania's ski country, and Camelback pairs its water park with a full ski mountain, so mixed-age families can split the day between slopes and slides. Whatever you plan, build it around the resort: distances in the Poconos are short but roads are rural, and in winter weather you will be glad your base has the activity on site. Our Poconos with kids guide covers the area in the warmer months, and the family packing list adapts easily: swap the sun gear for swim gear plus warm layers for the drive.

Getting there

The Poconos are a drive destination. Most families come by car from New York City or Philadelphia (drive times [check and add]). Flying in from abroad or from elsewhere in the US, the nearest airports are Lehigh Valley International (ABE), Newark Liberty (EWR) and JFK (drive times [check and add]).
